ENG 339 VICTORIAN SERIAL FICTIONS

VICTORIAN SERIAL FICTIONS  An exploration of Victorian fiction via its most notable publication method: serialized installments. Students will approximate the experience of Victorian readers, taking on texts by Dickens, Thackeray, Gaskell, and others in overlapping increments, while also exploring a range of methodological approaches to questions about how literature was produced and consumed in the nineteenth century.

Open to sophomores, juniors, and seniors. For sophomores, ENG 250 is strongly recommended.
