EAS 314 SEX AND POWER IN JAPAN

An introduction to gender, sexuality, and power in Japan. Drawing on interdisciplinary texts to complicate representations of sexuality in Japan, the course covers topics including: history of Japanese feminism, constructions of masculinity/femininity, and queer identities. Intersectional and transnational approaches will be emphasized in examining how gender and sexuality are constructed through configurations of power and culture in Japan. This course is taught in English.
