Gender and Women’s Studies Major

Because GWS is an interdisciplinary major, students are invited to double major in Gender and Women's Studies and another discipline. Majors are encouraged to undertake independent work in seminars, individual studies courses, or Honors Study. 

GWS majors must complete five required core courses -- GWS 103 or 104, 212, 224, 306, and 410 -- and five electives. While either 103 or 104 can serve as a gateway to the major, students are encouraged to take both. GWS 103 or 104 and GWS 212 should be completed before the end of the sophomore year. GWS 224 and 306 should be completed before the end of the junior year.  In addition, GWS majors must complete five GWS electives, at least three of which must be at the 200 level or higher, and one of which must be at the 300 level or higher.
