Biology to Applied Pharmaceutical Sciences - BS to MS
Program Overview
The accelerated bachelors to master’s program Applied Pharmaceutical Sciences degree program enables students to be successful in Pharmaceutical Science careers. The program blends the undergraduate biology curriculum with the graduate MS in Applied Pharmaceutical curriculum resulting in students obtaining their master’s within 5 years of matriculating to UIW. Opportunities are available for graduates to work in the pharmaceutical industry, government agencies, and research laboratories. In addition, the program provides a firm foundation for students interested in pursuing a PhD in Pharmaceutical Sciences. The program provides a graduate-level curriculum in the three key areas of Pharmaceutical Sciences: medicinal chemistry, pharmaceutics, and pharmacology. The curriculum also includes pharmaceutical regulatory affairs and research statistics to augment knowledge and skills for a successful career in the Pharmaceutical Sciences. In addition, students will have an opportunity to enhance their knowledge of selected topics through elective courses. The program culminates in a pharmaceutical internship and master’s thesis defense.
Admissions
Acceptance to the program requires two letters of recommendation (one of which must be from a professor), a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.00 overall and in the program prerequisites, a resume or CV, a statement of interest, and an invited interview. Completion of the Master of Science in Applied Pharmaceutical Sciences program requires successful completion of the thesis defense and submission of the written thesis to the Office of Research and Graduate Studies.
BS Biology majors can apply to the ABMSAPHS program after completing 60 undergraduate hours (including General Chemistry I and II with labs and Organic Chemistry I and II with labs, and Calculus/Statistics). Conditional acceptance may be granted for students who still need to complete program prerequisites. Rising seniors must apply by May 31st to be considered for acceptance into the program.
FTIC students can apply to the ABMSAPHS program per the University's admissions requirements and be granted conditional acceptance as long as they maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0 and a minimum 3.0 GPA in prerequisite courses.
