Bachelor of Arts in Music Industry Studies
The Bachelor of Arts in Music Industry Studies degree program combines the study of music with business courses and provides students with the tools to build careers in the multi-faceted music business. Careers covered in this major include recording engineer, entertainment attorney, publisher, songwriter, record producer, personal manager, record label executive, music editor, film composer, concert promoter, talent agent, studio owner, professional musician, arranger, musical director, and recording artist. Students take three semesters of Record Label Operations during which they oversee the student-run record label, Broadway Bird Records. They also spend two semesters in UIW's state-of-the-art recording studio. In order to graduate, degree candidates will demonstrate the acquisition of essential musical skills, including functional proficiency in one instrument, arranging skills, and a solid grasp of current music technology tools; they will also successfully complete a Music Industry internship.
Admissions
Admission to the Bachelor of Arts in Music Industry Studies degree program is a two-fold process.

Admission to the University of the Incarnate Word.

Admission, through audition, to the Department of Music.
Prerequisites: Students who, at the time of their entrance audition, are deemed unprepared for freshman-level MUAP lessons or MUSI courses may be placed in one or more of the following courses: MUAP 1144, MUSI 1311, MUSI 1381, MUSI 1100, MUSI 1300.
Bachelor of Arts in Music Industry Studies Degree Plan
The Music Industry degree plan requires a minimum of 132 credit hours to complete, and includes 47 credit hours in music, 33 credit hours in Music Industry courses, and 12 credit hours in Business courses.

All entering Music Industry Studies majors should register for MUST 2340 Introduction to Music Industries Studies, or, if entering in a spring semester, MUST 2360 Music Publishing.
