Bachelor of Business Administration

The Bachelor of Business Administration degree program requires completion of university core requirements, program core requirements including two Capstone courses, and completion of the requirements of one of the nine concentrations that are part of the BBA program. The Bachelor of Business Administration degree requires completion of the Cardinal Career Readiness Program. The degree program requires completion of a minimum of 120 credit hours.

A concentration is a minimum of 18 semester hours within a discipline, of which a minimum of nine hours must be upper-division hours. Students also have the opportunity to complete a minor in these and other subject areas. See the complete list of Minors offered by the University.

Students pursuing the BBA degree must complete MATH 1304: College Algebra, or MATH 2303: Introduction to Probability and Statistics, or a higher level mathematics course with a grade of C or Higher.

Accounting

The Bachelor of Business Administration degree program with a concentration in Accounting prepares students for professions in all functional areas of accounting.

Internship for Credit

Refer to the internship descriptions of each discipline for more details. All internships for credit require permission of the internship instructor and registration with the Career Services Internship Program. Internships are primarily an academic and/or intellectual endeavor, with the goal of establishing the link between theory and practice directly related to the student's major field of study. Once the approvals are in place a learning agenda will be established between the internship instructor and the student. Weekly activities and hours worked are reported to the internship instructor and Career Services. Most internships require a minimum GPA of 3.0 and completion of 12 hours of study in the discipline.

Business Economics

Finance

The Bachelor of Business Administration degree program with a Finance concentration develops global and social leaders who can direct companies and institutions to new paths of financial and economic growth that impact the whole community. The 120-hour degree program offers two paths of specialization: Financial Services and Financial Planning, each of which prepares students for careers in the most significant areas in finance.

The Financial Services career path allows students to improve their analytical and interpersonal skills required in the financial services sector. This sector includes not only banks but also insurance and investment firms. Students will take courses such as Financial Management, Financial Planning, and Investments.

The Financial Planning career path prepares students in areas of personal finance, such as risk management, insurance, estate planning, investment planning, and retirement, among others. The Financial Planning career path is recognized by the CFP® Board as a registered program.

The general business concentration is designed for students considering a wide range of career paths. It provides a solid foundation in the essential areas of business. International Business

The Bachelor of Business Administration with a concentration in International Business is designed to provide a broad analysis of business opportunities abroad, as well as political climates, trade barriers, government incentives, and trade practices. Students enrolled in the Bachelor of Business Administration with a concentration in International Business program, other than international students who attend UIW on a student visa, are required to participate in a short-term study abroad program for at least one week or a semester-long study abroad program. Students may study abroad as soon as their second semester in their sophomore year.

Sport Management

The Bachelor of Business Administration degree with a concentration in Sport Management is a 120-hour program focused on the business of the sport industry. It prepares professionals to be leaders and managers who work collaboratively within sport organizations. The program develops competencies related to working in nonprofit foundations as well as various community outreach programs and other nonprofit amateur sports organizations.

The program extends business core concepts into the sport industry. Students learn the current practices of sport organizations used to build effective organizations, engage participants and compete in diverse sport contexts.
