PHY 109 ADVANCED GENERAL PHYSICS I
A calculus-based introduction to the foundations of classical physics, covering Newtonian mechanics: how to describe and predict motion using ideas of calculus, forces, energy, momentum, torque, gravity, conservation principles, and wave phenomena. The class is taught in studio style: lecture and laboratory are intermingled, each informing the other.
Notes
Six hours of combined lecture, discussion, and laboratory per week. PHY 109 (or PHY 107) is a prerequisite for PHY 110. Students may only receive credit for only one set of introductory physics courses either PHY 107, 108 or PHY 109, 110. Students with Advanced Placement credit for the Physics 1, 2, or C examination may take a departmental placement test to enter the physics sequence at the PHY 108 or PHY 110 level.

MAT 112 (or a more advanced calculus course) for PHY 109;
MAT 113 (or a more advanced calculus course) for
PHY 110.

Open to first-year students and sophomores only.
