AHI 209 URBAN HISTORY OF ASIA

An exploration of the growth, demise, and rebirth of Asian cities, from Nara to Jerusalem, from Neolithic city-states to metropolises and cybercities. Students examine the city form and layout, engage in a discussion of urban studies theories and practices, and examine issues of architectural heritage, historical preservation, sustainability, and social equity and justice. Students are introduced to digital mapping tools to explore new approaches to urban studies.
