AHI 204 CHINESE ART AND ARCHITECTURE

Do Chinese art and architecture represent a continuous, homogeneous tradition, or did they undergo interruptions and transformations over time? This course explores the varied intellectual foundations that shaped the art and architecture of China. From wooden temples and mosques to ink paintings, scholar’s gardens and blue-and-white porcelain, examples are examined in a global context to track the interactions of China, Asia and the rest of the world, revealing the multiethnic identity and heterogeneity of Chinese art and architecture.
