Academic Advising Services

Academic Advising

The mission of academic advising at Washington Technology University is to further the teaching mission of the university by providing quality, accessible advising to all students.

Academic advisors help students successfully transition to the university and make progress towards their educational goals and graduation. Advisors are part of the educational process providing academic information and guidance to help students understand curricula, policies, and procedures. Academic advising is a collaborative teaching relationship among academic advisors, students, faculty and the university community. Working with advisors, students identify academic and career goals, create and implement plans, and assume responsibility for their education. Washington Technology University (WTU) offers service and support for undergraduate students.

Academic advising services will be available both in person and online. Initially advisors will focus on assisting students to meet the transition requirements to ensure their previous academic experience meets the requirements for the program they seek at WTU. This will include an assessment of their prior experience and academic credits, identification of requirements completed or to be completed and building an academic plan for each student to achieve success and graduation.

Academic advisors will work with new and continuing students to identify and coach the student through all the graduation requirements and to mentor students that are potentially high risk for completing their studies.

Academic advisors will be available Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 7:00 PM to provide assistance and counseling services to students as needed.

Career Placement Services

Washington Technology University is committed to helping students reach their career goals. Through the University’s Career Advising Center, students have access to a wide range of complimentary services and resources. These resources have been carefully selected to assist students in preparing for future professional positions. Although the intent is to actively engage students in the career development process, participation in career development activities and/or completion of any Washington Technology University program does not guarantee a student will find employment after graduation.

Career Planning

The University’s Career Advising Center provides the opportunity for students to assess their career interests and explore the major programs and career fields that are best suited to their individual strengths through counseling, career classes, workshops, and career information resources.

Internships and Placement

Internships enable students to acquire “hands-on” experience related to their degree, increase their marketability for future job placement, and enhance their preparation for graduate and professional programs. Internship opportunities are available locally, regionally, and nationally.

The University’s Career Advising Center offers students and alumni assistance with their internship and job search. The University’s Career Advising Center offers assistance with resume and cover letter writing, interview preparation, advice on employment issues, job search tips, and job trend information. The University’s Career Advising Center invites employers of all industries to recruit events such as job fairs, information sessions, mock interviews, class presentations, and on-campus interviews.
