3D Animation and Game Design to Game Development ABM Program Overview

The Accelerated Bachelor's to Master's (ABM) program in the department of 3D Animation & Game Design provides students with a cost- and time-effective means of completing both the undergraduate Bachelor of Fine Arts in 3D Animation and Game Design degree and the Masters of Game Development degree. The ABM program does this by allowing students to begin taking some graduate-level courses while still an undergraduate student. Further, some of the upper-level undergraduate courses are counted using the MGD's Prior Learning Assessment (PLA) mechanism. Graduates of this accelerated Bachelor's to Master's program will graduate with both the BFA and MGD degrees and thus be well-prepared for work in the video game industry or a career in 3D education pathways.

Admissions Requirements

Admission to the program is decided at the end of the 5th semester of undergraduate coursework. At this point, students must apply for the ABM program. After this point, students must either complete only the Bachelor of Fine Arts in 3D Animation and Game Design, or continue in the ABM program and complete both the BFA and the MGD degrees over the next 7 semesters.

3D Animation and Game Design to Masters of Game Development ABM Degree Plan

The Accelerated Bachelor's to Master's program in the School of Media and Design allows student to earn both the Bachelor of Fine Arts and Masters of Game Development degrees in as few as 12 semesters. Credit-hour requirements include 43 credit hours of required UIW core coursework, 68 credit hours of undergraduate level courses labeled ANGD, and 41credit hours of graduate ANGD courses.

Students begin coursework in the undergraduate portion in one of three concentrations, Animation, Modeling, or Programming; they then continue in their chosen concentration in the graduate potion of the program. 41 credit hours of graduate level courses are taken, including 32 credit hours of shared graduate ANGD core courses and 9 credit hours unique to each of the three concentrations.

In the undergraduate portion of the program, students complete 9 credit hours of graduate coursework. After transition to a graduate student classification, students complete an additional 32 credit hours of graduate level work. In total, ABM students complete 111 undergraduate credit hours and 41 graduate credits for a total of 152 credit hours. 9 of the graduate credits are completed while the student is an undergraduate and count towards the 120 credit hour undergraduate program requirement.
