Community Health Education
Community Health Educators are the frontline for gaining an understanding of community needs, including disease prevention and the promotion of healthy lifestyle practices. The program builds on the Ila Faye Miller School of Nursing’s (IFMSN) and the University of the Incarnate Word’s resources by adding an additional health professions entry opportunity at the undergraduate level.
Community health education is a social science driven process that promotes health and prevents disease within a diverse population. The purpose of health education is to positively influence the health behavior of individuals and communities as well as the living and working conditions that influence their health. Those who study community health learn how to design and implement programs that promote health and prevent disease within certain target populations in the community.
The Bachelors’ degree offered by the University of the Incarnate Word in Community Health Education (CHED) is designed to prepare individuals in the study and improvement of health promotion for different groups and communities.
