EDRD 3307 Essentials of Literacy Instruction

Essentials of Literacy Instruction introduces the essential components of reading, the features of effective literacy instruction, and relationships among oral language, reading, and writing. Students will be introduced to foundational literacy skills, identify the various genres of children’s literature, become familiar with the science of teaching reading, and will develop a foundation for teaching literacy in a culturally responsive classroom to ensure high academic achievement. This is the first course of five in the Literacy Minor. Offered in Fall and Spring.
