Nursing Certification (Post Graduate)

College/School: Ila Faye Miller School of Nursing and Health Professions

Courses leading to eligibility to take the Family Nurse Practitioner or Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner certification exams are available to students with a master's degree in nursing. Generally, the post-master's certificate program consists of between 19 and 25 course credits in each concentration. Most courses have a clinical component, and students complete a total of at least 500 clinical practicum hours. Students must apply using the usual application processes. Admissions Requirements

Candidates for admission to the nursing certification program should have

  • an earned graduate degree in nursing (MSN, DNP, PhD) from an accredited institution;
  • 3 prerequisite courses taken within 5 years:
    • Advanced Health Assessment,
    • Advanced Pharmacology,
    • Advanced Pathophysiology,

    Nurse Practitioner Roles course is required if one has not been taken (i.e. student is a not a NP);

  • a minimum GPA of 3.0 in graduate coursework;
  • an acceptable personal essay and 3 references.

FNP Certification Program Course Requirements

Courses

If the student is not a Nurse Practitioner, NURS 7381 Advanced Practice Registered Nurse Professional Roles is required.

Program also includes 512 clinical hours.
