The Cosmetology Certificate offers students a comprehensive education in the art and science of cosmetology. Techniques in facial hair design, haircutting and styling, facial massage, chemical services, skin care, nail care and salon management prepare students for state certification, Illinois Licensed Cosmetology, from the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation. Upon successful completion of the program, students will be eligible to apply for the Illinois Licensed Cosmetology examination. The Cosmetology Certificate requires the completion of 50 credit hours in the cosmetology courses.

Program Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of the Cosmetology Certificate program, the graduate will be able to:

  1. Communicate professionally in the workplace.
  2. Develop an employment portfolio.
  3. Demonstrate technical proficiency in hair cutting and styling, chemical services, product usage, skin services, and nail services.
  4. Create personalized haircuts that suit the client’s preference, style, and facial features.
  5. Practice decontamination and infection control procedures.
  6. Prepare to successfully pass the Illinois Licensed Cosmetology exam.
