INSC 40843 Business Intelligence and Analytics
Prerequisites: INSC 20263 with a grade of 'C' or better. This course is an introduction to the fundamentals of business intelligence (BI) and analytics. Business intelligence and analytics allow for the transformation of raw data into information and knowledge that can be used by managers for the purpose of decision-making. The domain of BI is in the gathering and storage of data. Analytics is considered the task of analyzing and modeling the data to provide competitive information to planners and decision makers. Through the use of the BI and analytics, organizations have potential to build competitive strategies around data-driven insights that yield superior business performance. Examples of analytics in action include the analysis of profitable customers, supply chain optimization, market basket analysis for online sales, recruitment and retention of human resources, among other potential examples. Real-world case studies will show students the ways organizations are using BI and analytics to support both tactical and strategic decision-making. To fulfill the BIS major requirements, either INSC 40384 OR 30273 must be taken for credit. Both classes can be taken for credit. Only INSC 30273 counts as credit towards the Fintech Certificate. Students completing the three classes INSC 30263, 30273, and 30283 with at least a C earn a fintech certificate designation.
