Master of Arts in Teaching

The Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) program is intended to accommodate the educational goals for two sets of educators: those holding a bachelor's degree who are also pursuing initial certification (42 credits), and Sacred Heart candidates who participate in the bachelor's-to-master's Five-Year Program. Courses build on the applicant's prior academic and school experience in the areas of educational foundations, curriculum, and instruction. One or more electives and a culminating experience are included.

Master of Education

The Master of Education (MEd) program is intended for licensed educators interested in earning a master's degree to build the skills needed for career advancement and to become more well-rounded educators.  Sacred Heart University's flexible, online master's program in education is particularly well-suited for working professionals, with two endorsement areas to choose from.  Upon completion of the program, candidates can apply for cross endorsement in special education or earn their 102 Remedial Reading and Language Arts Specialist Certification*. The Master of Education (MEd) is open to applicants who already hold a teacher certification from any state.

*Candidates are eligible to apply for state certification (102) after the successful completion of Master of Education in literacy coursework and 30 months of successful classroom experience working under a teaching certificate.
