BIO 113 Phage Hunters 2: Genomics
Phage Hunters 2: Genomics is the second of a two-semester research-based laboratory course sponsored by the Howard Hughes Medical Institute Science Education Alliance. Students will characterize and analyze the genomes of phages obtained in the wild with bioinformatics tools and compare their discoveries with those of phages isolated at other locations around the United States. The research goals of this course will be to identify bacteriophage genes and their organization, examine their similarities and differences that may characterize different phage groups, and determine how these groups may have arisen during evolution.
