SUNY Seamless Transfer Policy

All SUNY AA and AS graduates are guaranteed:

  • Transfer of 60 credits of coursework toward the bachelor’s degree
  • Up to 30 credits of general education courses in ten subject areas. The areas are specific and SUNY-wide. Each student gets a SUNY-wide GE transcript (the “GETA”).
  • Courses in the major typically taken in the first two years of baccalaureate study, (as listed on the “” website: https://www.suny.edu/student/transfer_planning_coursework.cfm). No other state has a defined core accepted at all two and four year campuses, providing clear guidance for students and advisors.
  • 37 Transfer Paths (58 majors because some paths; such as business, education and engineering; comprise several separate majors, all with the same initial coursework) have been completed in the most popular transfer disciplines, accounting for over 95% of all transfer students within SUNY.
  • 140 core courses have been defined via faculty committees involving over 400 faculty from both 2-year and 4-year campuses.
  • Almost 15,000 local campus courses have been mapped to the core courses. All of these are guaranteed to transfer to SUNY campuses.
  • Junior status with completion of the SUNY transfer path (completing SUNY general education, at least four courses in the major and cognate courses is “Seamless Transfer” and allows students to graduate in four years )
  • No course repeats for courses with the same (at least 70%) content
  • Transfer to at least one SUNY 4-year campus

In addition, students planning to transfer to a SUNY college should be aware of the SUNY General Education requirement. Students should begin to plan their course of study, with their advisors, during their first semester at RCC. For information on this and other transfer agreements, call the Student Development Center at 845-574-4307.
