Major theoretical foundations and current understandings of physiological mechanisms involved in the development and maintenance of substance abuse problems. Emphasis on exploring the differences in various drugs in use and their effects on individual functioning. Addresses issues of assessment, treatment interventions, the varied clientele affected by substance abuse problems as well as legal and ethical issues. PR: PSY 3013 or PSY 3403.
