ASL 1140 Basic American Sign Language

This is an introduction to American Sign Language (ASL) as used in the deaf community. There will be general discussion of ASL structure and an introduction to a variety of manual communication systems and philosophies. Emphasis will be on building a basic vocabulary of approximately 300 signs and the manual alphabet.

Students will need a grade of "C" or higher to proceed to ASL 1150.
