EPI 0020 Professional Foundations

This course provides the foundation of becoming a productive member of the teaching profession. Participants will gain an understanding of the organization and the administration of the public schools, the laws governing teachers, the Code of Ethics, and the purpose of schools. This course develops a professional perspective and creates a sense of grounding in the profession of teaching. The topics covered in this course include but are not limited to the following: 1) History of schools, 2) Philosophies of schooling, 3) Culture of schools, 4) Correlates of effective schools, 5) School law, 6) Teacher rights, 7) Standards-based reforms, 8) Professional learning communities, 9) Teaching best practices, 10) Ethics and excellence. A grade of "C" or higher must be attained
