THEA 393 Directed Research
Students doing directed research at the 300 level will have completed substantial coursework in the TPS major. Students are expected to be proficient in the areas of work involved in the project and should be able to work more independently, to mentor novice students, and to begin to propose new areas of inquiry.
The directed research could take the form of directing a performance, devising an original performance, playwriting, original research for a paper, designing scenic, lighting, or costume elements, technical directing, stage managing, and all the dramaturgical analysis that goes into such a project and that it is under the mentorship of a faculty member. The learning goals of directed research is for the students to:
- apply and develop proficiency in the skills and tools they have learned in earlier courses and experiences
- work independently to lead a team (if applicable), collaboratively, and in line with their design/directorial/technical vision
- conduct and execute original work
- incubate new ideas and use this opportunity as an incubator for future work
