MUSC 272 Conducting
In this course, students learn the basic principles and gestures of conducting for a variety of instrumental and vocal genres. Students learn aspects of score study, rehearsal preparation and delivery, visual/aural discrimination skills, and alternative movement approaches, while reinforcing essential musicianship. Students study expressive gestures, critical listening, and effective rehearsal techniques; analyze the technique of professional conductors; and workshop and critique the conducting technique of their classmates. The course also addresses the business aspects of conducting and the logistics of running an arts organization.

MUSC 151 and MUSC 271 or permission of instructor
