COGS 338 Language Acquisition
This class provides an investigation of the cognitive bases of language acquisition, informed by state-of-the-art research in psychology and linguistics in the study of first language acquisition. We will concentrate on the development of linguistic structure, including phonological, lexical, morphological, syntactic, and pragmatic development. Universal aspects of development will be discussed, as well as a variety of cross-linguistic phenomena. Other topics include theories of language learning (parameter-setting, maturation), learnability, atypical language development, and bilingualism.
