MUSC 101 Music Theory I
This course begins the four-semester music theory sequence covering the techniques of music for the student who has little or no previous musical training. Topics will include notation, modes, intervals, basic ear training, melody, harmony, rhythm, meter, and structural elements of music. Introductory exercises in composition of popular, jazz, and classical genres will be explored. The music studied will be chosen in collaboration with students and Music Department colleagues.
