POLS 235 United States Foreign Relations
This course focuses on the evolution of U.S. foreign policy in recent Administrations with special emphasis on the post-Cold War period. Attention is paid to American policy toward "emerging issues" for example the global environment development policy in the North/South dialogue ethnic violence and nationalist civil wars human rights and humanitarian relief. It explores how policy is formulated and implemented and analyzes the relationship of foreign policy to American economic and defense policies. It examines U.S. policy toward major regional power configurations-in Europe the Far East Latin America the Middle East South Asia and Africa.
