Program Learning Outcomes

All graduates of the A.A.S. in Medical Assisting degree program and the Medical Assisting diploma program will be prepared for the wide range of clinical and administrative duties required in the clinical setting. Our goal is to prepare competent entry-level medical assistants in the cognitive (knowledge), psychomotor (skills), and affective (behavior) learning domains.

Patient Care:

Provide patient care by:

  • Proficiently performing all components of patient rooming and assisting providers with patient care.
  • Performing within the legal and ethical boundaries, demonstrating his/her responsibility to protect the privacy of the patient.

Clinical Skills:

Apply clinical skills by:

  • Demonstrating the ability to perform diagnostic tests performed in the medical office.
  • Applying pharmacology principles to prepare and administer oral and/or parenteral medications.

Administrative Office Skills:

Apply administrative office skills by:

  • Competently performing clerical functions of the medical office using the electronic and/or paper medical record
  • Demonstrating the ability to perform billing and basic bookkeeping procedures using the electronic and/or paper billing systems.

Interpersonal Effectiveness:

Apply interpersonal effectiveness skills by:

  • Exhibiting appropriate interpersonal effectiveness skills by:
  • Demonstrating positive relationship skills, respect for others, and awareness of the impact of his/her decisions on others.
