MLT1170 CLINICAL HEMATOLOGY 1

This hematology course includes the description, maturation, identification, and function of blood cells and bone marrow in a healthy patient. Abnormal red blood cell (RBC) and white blood cell (WBC) disorders will be discussed in depth. Laboratory exercises lead to the completion of a complete blood count (CBC) including automated and manual methods for leukocyte (WBC) and erythrocyte (RBC) counts, hemoglobin and hematocrit values, and the identification and differentiation of normal, abnormal, mature, and immature blood cells on blood smears. Laboratory safety, quality control, and recognition of normal values are emphasized.
