PSY212 Research Methods in Behavioral Sciences
This course will provide an introduction to the basic principles/concepts used in research methods within the behavioral sciences. Students will learn how to use the scientific method and apply critical thinking skills when evaluating research studies, electronic databases and other sources of information. Emphasis will be placed on how to effectively search and evaluate primary and secondary source materials. Students will assess validity, reliability, and statistical significance in research. Experimental, correlational, case studies, quasi-experimental and qualitative designs will be taught. The focus will be on teaching the research process by having the student apply research methodology and design in the production of a research proposal that contains the following: a research question, literature, review, hypotheses, operationalization of variables, research design and data collection methods. Special consideration will be given to ethical and legal guidelines for research and proper use of APA style.
