Medical assistants are multi-skilled health professionals specifically educated to work in ambulatory settings performing administrative and clinical duties. The practice of medical assisting directly influences the public's health and well-being, and requires mastery of a complex body of knowledge and specialized skills requiring both formal education and practical experience that serve as standards for entry into the profession. This program provides classroom instruction and practicum experience that prepares students for a career as a medical assistant. The program emphasizes patient care in the office or clinic, as well as administrative and communication skills. Upon graduation, students may find employment opportunities in private physicians' offices, group practices, ambulatory care clinics, HMO clinics, community health centers, and public health facilities.
