Accelerated Masters Degree and Teacher Certification Program (Jump Start)

This accelerated degree or advanced certificate program is primarily designed for career changers but may also be appropriate in other circumstances.  The Jump Start Program begins as a cohort two times each year: 1) at the beginning of the Fall semester and follows the regular class schedule, or; 2) in January of the spring semester and follows an intensive schedule. After completing at least 50% of the Masters degree, completing all required NYS workshops, and passing at least one NYS exam, teacher candidates are eligible to begin looking for a full-time teaching position for the following September. Jump Starters will be working under a NYS Internship Certificate while finishing their Masters degree.

The Internship Certificate is valid for up to two years from its effective date and is not renewable. When the Jump Starter successfully completes their Master’s program, and has fulfilled the NYSED requirements, the Internship Certificate is no longer valid. Manhattanville will then submit an institutional recommendation for certification in the TEACH system (e.g., Initial and/or Professional, Provisional and/or Permanent).

The Jump Start program is available for dual certification with Special Education in the areas of Early Childhood Education, Childhood Education, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, Social Studies, and English; and for certification in Physics, World Languages, TESOL, and Computer Science Education. The School of Education will assist in locating opportunities to apply for positions.  However, job placement is not guaranteed.
