ART 5120 ARCHITECTURAL RENDERING/DRAWING

This course has been designed as both a survey of the evolution of architectural styles as well as a hands-on study of the fundamentals of drafting. Skills explored in this course include freehand sketching, pencil drawing, inking techniques, lettering, perspective and rendering. While styles from various periods and cultures will be examined throughout the course, particular emphasis will be given this semester to the Daibutsuyo Style of late 12th and early 13th century Japan, the 20th century work of Piet Mondrian and the De Stijil Movement, the work influenced by the Bahaus School of early 20th-century Germany. In addition to required lectures and workshops, students will be expected to visit museums as well as other sites of architectural significance. Students will also learn software like SketchUp and Easy CAD. Students will complete a final architectural project to demonstrate their facility with the concepts and techniques learned in the course.
