MUH 2002 OPERA AS THEATER
This course will examine various operas, including le Nozze di Figaro, LaBoheme, Manon and others. Questions of dramatic and musical style will be addressed, as the opera as an art form will be analyzed for its effectiveness as musical theatre, on its own, and in comparison with the play or story from which it is drawn.. Each day will consist of a lecture about source material and musical background for the operas, followed by a viewing and discussion.
