DTH 1000 CREATIVE PROCESS

This entry-level course provides students with a foundation in the vocabulary of performance through studio exercises in ensemble techniques, Viewpoints Techniques, storytelling, choreographic composition, improvisation, investigation of theatrical texts, and basic design elements. It will also provide practice in the clarity and authenticity of speech and an introduction to Shakespearian texts. A series of critical readings on creativity, performance theory, and techniques will inform the course. Students will submit written responses to assigned readings and live performances on campus and in New York City. This course is the prerequisite for all required courses in the DTH Major, with the exception of primary level Dance Technique courses, and should be taken in the student's first year. A performance fee is required. Students are responsible for round trip transportation into New York City one time.
