FYS 130 Being Nonhuman

Liberal arts shares, across a spectrum of disciplines, a core fundamental question: what does it mean to be human? In this course we will explore how the definition of the human—and of humanity—has historically rested on assumptions about nonhuman life. In fact, it is impossible to think the human without that which it is not. What, then, does it mean to be nonhuman?
