GC 5970 TRANSLATION MEDICINE

This course will provide an introduction to the “bench to bedside” approach of medicine known as translational medicine. Students will gain an understanding of how genomic, molecular, developmental, physiological, environmental and social information will allow for fuller comprehension of mechanisms of disease and allow for more precise interventions for such. Foundational aspects of clinical pharmacology and pharmacogenomics will be studied. Application of translational medicine to oncology will be reviewed. Emphasis will be placed on the clinical application of research. Multidisciplinary collaboration and the role of the genetic counselor will be discussed.
