Student Health Services
Downs Hall Room 126
Kean Wellness Center - Student Health Services
Kean University Student Health Services is staffed by board certified nurse practitioners and physicians that are available to treat any registered student of the university. Student Health Services can manage a wide range of health concerns including but not limited to acute injury/illness, providing state mandated vaccines, STD screening, sexual reproductive health, and many other health related concerns that a student may have. Student Health Services will not replace your primary care practitioner, however, they can function as a supplement while at Kean University. Visit the Student Health Services website for additional information.
Kean Ocean and Kean Skylands students can obtain health services in person at Kean Union Student Health Services. If students are unable to travel to Kean Union, virtual appointments are available. If additional services are required, students will be referred to an outside local urgent care.
Our hours are Monday, Thursday, Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Tuesday and Wednesday, 9 a.m. to 7p.m. Appointments can be made by logging into your Student Health Portal at kean.studenthealthportal.com., calling (908) 737-4880, or by stopping by our office in Downs Hall, Room 126.
Immunization Requirements
Registration Information
The submission of immunization records is mandated by New Jersey State, therefore all students are required to submit documentation. Please upload your immunization records through your Student Health Portal, kean.studenthealthportal.com.
In response to updated federal and state guidelines on COVID-19, as of June 1, 2023, Kean University no longer requires the COVID-19 vaccination, however, it is strongly recommended.
Immunization Deadline: The deadline for submitting all vaccination records for the Fall semester is August 1 and January 6 for the Spring semester.
Returning students do not need to resubmit vaccination records already on file with the University. If returning students are missing immunization requirements, they are required to submit all missing documentation or a hold/restriction will be placed on their account.
Immunization requirements can be found in the Immunization Requirements Chart, https://www.kean.edu/media/immunization-requirements-chart.
Details are available in the Immunizations Requirements Form, https://www.kean.edu/media/ay-2324-immunization-history-form. Please read carefully for directions to complete and submit this document.

Health Insurance Marketplace Information
Kean University does not offer a student health insurance plan. Students must obtain their own health insurance that is compliant with the Federal Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA). Those individuals who do not have coverage with a PPACA compliant plan will be subject to tax fines. The Federal Government along with the state of New Jersey established health insurance exchanges that allow families and individuals to compare coverage and relate costs among a variety of insurance companies.
Please visit www.healthcare.gov to see when the next open enrollment period begins. If it is outside the enrollment period you still may be eligible to apply. To see if you can still get coverage outside the open enrollment period, start by answering the questions on the Marketplace website at: https://www.healthcare.gov/screener/.
