2023-2024 Undergraduate Catalog

CHEM 3381 PHYSICAL CHEMISTRY I

Detailed discussions of the theories of thermodynamics and their applications to the behavior of matter. Thermodynamic functions such as U, H, S, G and A, are defined and relationships among them are mathematically derived. The thermodynamic functions and principles are applied to explaining and predicting the properties of gas, chemical equilibrium, phase change, solubility, and electrochemistry. (3 hr. lec./1 hr. rec.)
