Students interested in obtaining a mathematics certification upon degree conferral must submit a separate application. Please visit the Office of Teacher Certification for information regarding those instructions and the NJ Department of Education for information regarding the requirements specific to the respective certification.
Program Accreditation:
The K-12 teacher Certification Option and the Dual Certification for Teachers of Students with Disabilities and K-12 Mathematics Option programs are accredited by the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP).
Admissions Requirements:
Prospective students must meet the University’s GPA requirement for acceptance in a particular Option.

Declaration Requirements:
In order to become a declared B.A. in Mathematical Sciences major,
-Students in the Statistics Option, Data Analytics Option, Mathematical Sciences Option, or Actuarial Science Option must meet the following criteria:
-Students in the K-12Teacher Education Option, or Dual Certification for Teachers of Students with Disabilities and K-12 Mathematics Option must meet the following criteria:
Graduation Requirements:
-Students in the Statistics Option, Data Analytics Option, Mathematical Sciences Option, or Actuarial Science Option must maintain a minimum GPA of 2.0
-Students in the Teacher Certification programs must have a minimum 3.0 GPA, must submit evidence of passing the Praxis I and II exams, and satisfy the College of Education graduation requirements.
Program Description:
A major in the mathematical sciences is designed to fulfill several objectives: to develop mathematical reasoning through problem solving; to investigate the mathematical theory which facilitates an understanding of mathematical applications; to provide background for careers in applied mathematics, statistics, data science, actuarial science, or teaching of secondary school mathematics; to prepare for graduate studies in the mathematical sciences. These are achieved, with departmental advisement, through appropriate selection of courses.
