Environmental Science

We are at a pivotal point in history when the world is in great need for well-trained scientists to understand how to measure and mitigate the impact that people are having on our environment. Our Environmental Science program prepares this generation of scientists through hands-on research and field experiences that are carried out on our main campus, our Kean Ocean and Skylands campuses, and even at WKU (China). Faculty work closely with students to share their expertise in hydroponic agriculture, soil chemistry, climate change, coastal resiliency, water and air pollution, Geographic Information Systems, biodiversity monitoring, and waste management.

We collectively work with students on measuring and monitoring our environment in the field and lab, and develop strategies to solve some of the most pressing environmental issues of our time. All students in this major are encouraged to work with a faculty member on a research project and/or take part in an internship with one of our many local partnering companies, parks, sustainable farms/hydroponic nurseries, and non-profit organizations.
