Academic Advisement
The University views academic advisement as a critical aspect of the academic experience. Students will receive individual advisement as follows:
All newly enrolled students will have a program specific major advisor assigned within two weeks of enrollment.
All undergraduate students are required to meet with their faculty advisor(s) at least once per semester prior to registering for the next semester. Students are strongly encourage to meet a second time to discuss their continued semester progress and any necessary changes in their pending schedule.
In addition to the major advisor, new freshmen will have their initial and second semester advisement and registration coordinated through the School of General Studies (SGS) as part of their Transition to Kean (T2K) experience. For more information call the School of General Studies at 908-737-0330. Starting with the advisement for the third semester, these students must seek advisement through their major Department or School.
For their initial advisement, new transfer, second baccalaureate degree and readmitted students at Kean Union and Kean Skylands are directed to contact their major Department or School for advisement.
For their initial advisement at Kean Ocean new transfer, second baccalaureate and readmit students should contact the Kean Ocean Administrative Office, Gateway 103, 732-255-0356 for assistance in scheduling their initial registration appointment.
Undecided/Undeclared Majors - Students who are neither officially intended nor declared with an academic major are considered undecided, and will continue to receive specialized advisement through the School of General Studies until they select an appropriate major of study. Student must choose and complete a specific major program of study to be eligible to graduate from Kean.
