SW 5402 HUMAN BEHAV & SOC ENVIRN II
This is part two of a two semester sequence foundation level practice course that focuses on human behavior and interactions among larger systems of various types and sizes, including organizations, communities, and national and international systems and social institutions, and how they impact services. The influence of values and ethical issues, power dynamics, social and economic forces, social injustice, and the relationship to discrimination and oppression and social work roles and responsibilities are explored. Individualization of people and diversity issues with respect to race, ethnicity, gender, age, socioeconomic status, sexual orientation and ability level are also addressed. Based on the generalist perspective it will incorporate assessment, fieldwork, practice research and policy. Students will build upon the roles of advocate, enabler, broker and coordinator. Futhermore, it will build upon concepts addressed in Human Bahavior and the Social Environment I to increase understanding about the importance of differences in shaping life experiences.
