SOC 5101 GENDER, SOCIETY, AND INEQUALITY

An examination of the social construction of gender in the United States and around the world. Gender will be viewed as an ever-changing social construction that is mediated by dominant social institutions, everyday practice and movements for social change and gender justice. Specific focus will be placed on the social structural basis of gender inequality and the ways in which gender intersects with other categories of oppression, such as race, ethnicity, and sexuality. Prerequisites: None for graduate students; SOC 4301 for undergraduates.
