MGS 5150 SUP CH.SRCING&PROCRMENT MNG

This course aims to develop major strategies and techniques of purchaing and procurement management in Supply Chains. A supply chain consists of many different entities, ranging from raw material suppliers to final customers. Manufacturers, wholesalers, retailers, producers and all those involved in the purchase, storage and distribution of goods, stock and raw materials need to ensure that stocks and materials are effectively controlled and managed. Poor stock control and bad purchasing decisions can lead to financial collapse of an organization whilst good stock control and procurement can enhance profitability and ensure long term growth. The focus of the course is on supply market intelligence, relationship assessment and management, negotiation, contracting, and managing conflict in business relationships in a globally intergrated supply chain. Purchasing and procurement relationships may exist between internal fuctional groups, as well as with suppliers and/or customers. The course emphasizes on collaboration and strategy execution, assessing, establishing metrics/expectations, contracting, and managing external business relationshiips in sourcing, logistics and operations. The course will also highlight practical-oriented learning and as part of the class requirements, students will also participate in a research project investigating best practices in supplier development initiatives. The course is especially designed for management positions withing the Purchasing and Supply Chain Management field.
