EDU 209 Earth Science for Elem Ed

(Contact Hours: 5) This course will introduce concepts to help students develop an understanding of earth and space science concepts for preparing students to teach children in grades K-6. Topics are taken from the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) Disciplinary Core Ideas and will include astronomy, geology, weather and climate, natural hazards, climate change, human impacts on the environment, and sustainability. The course will be inquiry-based exploration through hands-on lab activities, group discussions, oral and digital presentations, and written assignments in order to help students develop understanding of the materials. The students will apply core earth and space science concepts to global issues to further their comprehension of the natural world. Minimum benchmarks will be enforced.
