BREW 110 History,Culture&Sustainability

(Contact Hours: 2) Through this course students will gain knowledge of brewing history from the origins of civilization and Medieval Europe, to the era of prohibition in the United States and the present local, national, and global brewing industries. Additional topics include legal and regulatory issues, the Three Tier Distribution System, sustainable practices, and the health impact of responsible beer and alcohol consumption. A perspective of the brewing processes and unit operations will be included as it applies to home, craft, and large-scale brewers, including strategies for sourcing, pricing, marketing, and sales. Students will also be provided information to consider the multitude of career options within the brewing industry. Minimum benchmarks will be enforced.
