PHY 100 Fundamentals of Physics

(Contact Hours: 5) A one-semester course that is intended to introduce the non-science or non-technical major to the broad concepts of physics. It uses a somewhat philosophical approach and does not emphasize mathematical rigor. It includes a survey of topics in mechanics, heat, sound, light, electricity, and modern physics. Recommended prerequisite: Writing -- SAT: 32, Accuplacer: 105, ACT: 25, COMPASS: 95, or ENG 110 or ENG 160; Reading -- SAT: 23, Accuplacer: 70, ACT: 18, COMPASS: 80, or TRS 102; and Math -- SAT: 23.5, ALEKS: 14, Accuplacer (Arithmetic): 80, ACT: 18, COMPASS (PreAlgebra): 50, or MATH 094, or instructor permission. Minimum benchmarks will be enforced.
