2026-2027 Catalog

Associate of Engineering Science in Environmental Engineering

Program Description

This program is designed for students transferring to a four-year university to complete their BS degree in Environmental Engineering. It allows students to complete the first two years of the BS degree at the community college. Environmental engineers ensure the quality of health for people and the environment through sustainable design and construction, proper waste management, and development of environmental regulations and law. Environmental engineering is an exciting profession that is the crucial bridge between human development and environmental sustainability that works to safeguard public health, mitigate climate impacts, and preserve natural resources. This program introduces students to calculus, physics, and engineering applications, and includes courses that are designed to transfer to Colorado State University in order to continue studies in environmental engineering. This is a designed career pathway in environmental engineering. The Associate of Engineering Science (AES) degree prepares students to complete the second half of a Bachelor of Science (BS) in environmental engineering at a four-year university, specifically Colorado State University.

The AES in Environmental Engineering requires students to enter prepared to take Calculus I (MAT 2410) and General College Chemistry I (CHE 1111). See an advisor to discuss testing-out options, review transfer university requirements, and to develop an academic plan that works for you.

My Academic Plan: Full-Time

Courses are displayed in a full-time sequence showing the fastest path to your degree. Follow the pathway below to complete your AES degree in 4 semesters (2 years). For more information please see your Academic Advisor.

There are multiple ways to pursue a degree in Engineering. It is very important to work with your Academic Advisor to develop the best academic plan for where you are starting and where you are hoping to transfer.

For students who want to complete a degree in Environmental Engineering and transfer to Colorado State University and are college chemistry and calculus ready, the AES in Environmental Engineering is the most direct path to a Bachelor’s degree in this field.  It is recommended that you meet with your advisor before selecting a pathway in Engineering.
