Goals of the Program
Upon completion of the Doctor of Philosophy in Sacred Theology, the student will be able to:
1. demonstrate advanced knowledge in an areas of sacred theology: catechetics, biblical, historical, dogmatic/systematic, or moral theology;
2. cultivate fundamental skills in teaching at the undergraduate level;
3. utilize classical and modern foreign languages in their scholarship;
4. make a significant contribution to the treasury of human knowledge in the chosen field of specialization through the completion of a dissertation.
These goals will be measured through a comprehensive exam rubric, an exit survey, teaching evaluations and peer-reviews of teaching, foreign language exams administered by the Department of Theology, a faculty dissertation committee report on the student’s oral defense of the dissertation, and by tracking how many graduates get their dissertation published and how many graduates participate at academic conferences in their field.
